NNVAWI Award Nominations Due June 1, 2013

At each conference, we acknowledge members who have demonstrated excellence in violence against women work with a series of awards. These awards will be presented at the luncheon on June 18, 2013 at the NNVAWI conference in Vancouver, British Columbia.

We are now seeking nominations for 4 Excellence Awards in the areas of practice and policy, research, education and service to NNVAWI. Please consider nominating your colleagues, acquaintances, friends – we want to celebrate the work of our members!!

Nominees must be members of NNVAWI and be nominated by 2 members of the association. A member may receive each of these awards only once. At the 2012 NNVAWI conference in Charlottesville, Virginia we were pleased to honour Dr. Robin Mason (Excellence in Education), Dr. Ursula Kelly (Excellence in Research) and Dr. Annie Lewis-O'Connor (Excellence in Service to NNVAWI).

Nominations are easy to do! Simply complete and send the brief nomination form by email to Marilyn Ford-Gilboe, Vice President, NNVAWI at  Nominations forms can be found on the NNVAWI awards page

NNVAWI Student Networking Breakfast

Within NNVAWI there is a long history of successful mentoring between members and graduate students. Indeed many individuals who joined NNVAWI as students have gone on to hold positions on the Board and continue to be actively engaged at each conference. At the 2013 NNVAWI Annual Conference we will be continuing the tradition of hosting a Student Networking Breakfast. This meeting will be facilitated by Jessica Draughon, who is the Student Member on the NNVAWI Board and a graduate student at Johns Hopkins University School of Nursing where she is in the last stages of writing for her doctoral dissertation.

I would like to take this opportunity to ask all members who work with graduate students conducting research in the VAW field to encourage their graduate students to register and attend the Conference in Vancouver.
