Dr. Doris Campbell, a long-standing member of NNVAWI, was a nursing leader who was internationally recognized for her teaching, scholarship and public service with women and children, and most notably her seminal research documenting the consequences of intimate partner violence and abuse for African American women and their families. Over the course of a 40-year career, Dr. Campbell held academic appointments at the The University of Florida Gainesville, Florida A & M University, The University of Sourth Florida Tampa (Professor Emeritus) and the University of the Virgin Islands.

Dr. Jackie Campbell, friend and colleague to Doris for over 30 years, shared, "We are heartbroken and the world is a lesser place for her passing. At the same time we resolve to carry on her work, to provide better health care and safety planning by partnering with women... She recognized from the beginning and made the rest of us see and understand the challenges and complexities of abused women of colour and otherwise marginalized people, with her brilliant and empowering research and publications."

On behalf of all members of NNVAWI, we share our thoughts and prayers with Dr. Campbell's family. Information about the celebration of her life on July 1, 2017 has been provided.
