Organizational Description:
The Asian & Pacific Islander American Health Forum, Inc. (APIAHF) is a national advocacy organization whose mission is to promote improvement in
the health status of all Asian and Pacific Islander Americans. The APIAHF was formed in 1986 to identify significant health issues facing the Asian
and Pacific Islander American communities, and to encourage general public and political support to promote the health of Asian and Pacific Islander
Americans.
Position:
Program Coordinator III, 100% Full Time Equivalent
Salary Range:
Starting at $3,500 per month and excellent fringe benefits
Job Summary:
The Asian & Pacific Islander Institute on Domestic Violence is a national coalition of domestic violence experts, shelter workers, health
educators, and policy activists working to eliminate domestic violence in Asian communities by building supportive networks, increasing awareness and
prevention of domestic violence, identifying and expanding resources, and informing and promoting research and policy. The Asian & Pacific Islander
American Health Forum is the lead agency for this coalition. Funding is provided under a 1-year renewable contract with the Dept. of Health & Human
Services.
Primary activities of the Institute currently include: the convening of national meetings, coordination of a national steering committee and
workgroups, technical assistance and training, development of culturally competent materials and resources, development of a resource clearinghouse,
and other program planning for a national domestic violence program.
The Program Coordinator will be supervised by the Program Manager for the Institute. The Program Coordinator will also work closely with other staff
of the APIAHF's Community Health Development Division.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement national domestic violence program;
- Manage contract and budget of over $375,000;
- Proposal and report-writing;
- Supervise implementation of program activities;
- Organize and convene a heavy schedule of national meetings, teleconferences and events on domestic violence and Asians and Pacific Islanders throughout the year;
- Work closely with national steering committee members and working group members;
- Serve in advocacy role, including public speaking;
- Work as team member of project staff;
- Travel to domestic violence organizations and other sites as needed throughout the U.S.;
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Program Manager.
Required Qualifications:
- Graduate degree or equivalent experience in domestic violence, behavioral sciences, or related field;
- Three years relevant experience working with Asian and/or Pacific Islander communities;
- Strong interpersonal and organizational skills and ability to work with diverse groups of people;
- Experience in planning and facilitating meetings and conference calls;
- Experience in program planning and budget development;
- Demonstrated effective writing skills;
- Demonstrated effective public speaking skills;
- Demonstrated proficiency with Windows-based word processing and email;
- Strong initiative, creativity and motivation, including ability to work under pressure and with deadlines;
- Ability to travel as part of work responsibilities.
Desired Qualifications:
- Experience in supervising staff;
- Experience or interest in domestic violence and health policy;
- Bilingual and/or biliterate in an Asian or Pacific Islander language.

PROGRAM ASSISTANT -
HEALTHCARE RESPONSE TO DOMESTIC VIOLENCE
Job Announcement

individual to work with us.
The Program Assistant will provide general administrative support to
the Managing Director of the National Healthcare Initiative, and
Program Specialists on that team.
SPECIFIC JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provide administrative and programmatic support to the National
Healthcare Initiative.
- Coordinate or assist with a variety of tasks, many of them ongoing
simultaneously, including maintenance of the National Health Resource
Center on Domestic Violence, the distribution of materials, and the
production of written educational materials
- Answer and screen telephone, fax and email inquiries to the FVPF's
Health Resource Center on Domestic Violence; independently research
and respond to requests for information as appropriate; greet visitors
as necessary; input data and manage the HRC Health Technical
Assistance database system;
- Research information and compile available resource materials for
technical assistance calls or requests for information from public or
private individuals or groups; produce and coordinate distribution of
informational packets for targeted professional groups associated;
inform staff of issues and new directions and projects from the field.
- Compose, edit and produce draft and finished correspondence,
documents, reports, announcements etc.; proofread for accuracy,
correct grammar, clarity etc.; word-process complex, sensitive
documents requiring the exercise of good judgment and a knowledge of
applicable policies and procedures;
- Coordinate development, finished production and distribution of
documents, materials and manuals for domestic violence programs,
meetings, training and educational events, conferences, etc. as
directed; coordinate all aspects of production and distribution of
grant proposals and reports where necessary;
- Maintain a working stock of materials in the Health Resource Center
and keep an inventory of materials in storage; pull items up from
storage, re-order and reprint materials as needed to meet staff and
Resource Center needs; coordinate with printing houses and FVPF staff
to facilitate printing updates.
- Assist in the development of the health unit website
- Coordinate travel arrangements for staff, consultants and others in
support of program meetings and events as required;
- Assist with the logistics of meetings, program events, training
sessions, conferences etc. as directed; participate as directed in
events and discussion sessions; prepare agenda and materials for staff
meetings and take minutes, as required;
- Assist with other aspects of program management and implementation
as directed; perform general administrative duties, including typing,
filing, photocopying, and other tasks, as required; and help organize
the daily administrative work that supports executive and program
decision making and operations; take minutes of meetings as required;
attend staff and project planning meetings as required;
- Perform ad hoc tasks as required.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE & SKILLS:
The successful incumbent will have proven skills in administrative
support, preferably in a public sector organization. Incumbent must
be able to show personal initiative as well as be able to work
collaboratively as a member of a team. Individual must have excellent
communication skills, both written and verbal; must demonstrate
effective judgment in a fast-paced work environment while meeting
deadlines. Must have strong organizational skills and excellent
command of contemporary office hardware and software.

resource materials, training and support to thousands of healthcare
providers, policy makers and advocates annually, helping them better
serve victims and their children.
