PURPOSE
This three-day conference builds on cutting edge NNVAWI conferences beginning in 1985. It will bring together leaders in the health, social service and community responses to ending violence against women. The conference is designed to promote responses to violence against women and their families that are most appropriate and effective for the various cultures and languages in a community. It will foster increased awareness, understanding and collaboration among health care providers, social services, grass roots organizations and other community groups.
The purpose of this conference is to encourage those already working to reduce violence against women and improve the health and well-being of women and children to share their innovative work. The conference will underscore the importance of collaborations among health and human service providers, violence prevention/intervention advocates, and communities so that women and children live longer, healthier lives. An additional goal of this conference is to increase the awareness of the role of the health care, communities and the social service system in effectively responding to violence against women and children.
CONFERENCE OBJECTIVES
This conference will assist participants to:
- Understand the effects of violence on the health disparities of women survivors and their families.
- Determine the barriers that prevent women in diverse communities from creating responses to ending violence.
- Highlight innovative models of service delivery accountable to diverse women and children living with and surviving violence.
- Strengthen partnerships between researchers, domestic violence agencies, community advocates and diverse communities.
- Share cutting edge collaborative research regarding women and violence with diverse communities.
- Identify effective strategies for practice, education, research, and policy formation related to the health of women and children survivors of violence.

The Friday morning April 7th sessions will begin with a keynote speaker, followed by concurrent presentations on topics selected by the planning committee. A panel presentation on Saturday morning April 8th will be followed by additional concurrent presentations. Poster presentations and exhibitors will be available throughout the conference.
